The Black Gotham Archive is an extension of a book by Carla Peterson entitled Black Gotham: A Family History of African Americans in Nineteenth-Century New York City. The project developed an interactive website that explores the geographical spaces of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn to create a deeper understanding of nineteenth-century black New York. Information and discussion about the project are hosted on a WordPress site, while the Archive is built using Omeka. The two sites were customized to make the transition between the two as seamless as possible.
